Built in approximately 1823 as a house for a Mrs Mary Shepherd, The Blackwell Ox Inn took its name from a shorthorn Teeswater Ox under the registered name of "The Blackwell Ox" bred and fed by Christopher Hill and stood at a height of 6'.0" at the crop and weighed 2278lbs, slaughtered and butchered in 1779 the meat being sold for the sum of £109-11s-6d.
Today the Blackwell Ox Inn is an experience in rural hospitalitiy and excellent facilities, offering a public bar with hand pulled Ales, a Restaurant offering gastronomic delights prepared by a brigade of experienced Chef's using fresh local produce. Comfortable bedrooms, individually designed, all combined together to create a venue committed to customer satisfaction, that is equally inviting both for relaxation and business.
The Blackwell Ox Inn is to be found in the picturesque village of Sutton on the Forest, just north of York, North Yorkshire on the B1363, providing an excellent base to explore York and its surrounding attractions including Sutton Park and Gardens.
